I will be teaching a workshop titled, "Performance and the Vocal Artist" at the Piedmont Piano Company Music School on Feb 8th. Attendees will perform a familiar song with our accompanist (the brilliant Adam Schulman) and I will coach them in the principles of performance. I will guide the student through the darkness of the unknown and into the light of their 'authentic' truth. It is this 'authentic' connection with our own truth that connects with the listener in a very special way. It also grounds the performer so that they may deliver a genuine telling of the words (lyrics). Using someone else's words to tell your story takes a little practice. The more and more you connect with and develop your connection to your 'own truth', then you will be able to spin the story (lyric) in your own way, giving it a depth that comes from the truth behind the words.
The workshop will be held upstairs at Piedmont Piano. It is a 3-hour workshop and each student will be able to perform at least one song. If the class is not full, there will be even more opportunity to 'workout'.
